Dan's 5 Tips for the Madrid Masters

Wed 05th October, 2011

Last week I got another each way return making it 8 returns out of 9 weeks. Unfortunately Dave, the guy who puts this stuff up on the website, was sunning himself in Florida so you'll just have to take my word for it! Dave's not allowed out now until after Christmas so you'll see some more regular posts from me in the future.

Last week the much fancied Rory McIlroy was tipped at 10/1, sadly he didn't complete the job and had to settle for second place meaning a £10ew bet return £17.50. This week is the Madrid Masters and according to my knowledge on the inside there are a few dead elephants buried under the greens, that and the fact it is over 7,500yards long means we need to find a bomber who can putt, there aren't too many of them around!

With Luke Donald offering odds of 5-1 at best it's obvious the bookies can't see anybody but the worlds number 1 player winning. Unfortunately those sort of odds don't hold anywhere near enough value for me to back him, however if he gets off to a slow start and his odds increase he may be worth a bet, especially after his final round 63 at St Andrews last week.

Peter Hanson - 16/1
Very steady player and always considered one of the bigger names in European Tour golf. Relatively long hitter and an extremely consistent performer.

Nicolas Colsaerts - 20/1
The big hitting Belgian has to be considered around this Mammoth golf course.

Jaco Van Zyl - 28/1
Has finished in the top 15 in 5 of his last 6 appearances, this includes a T-9th at last week's Dunhill Links. Certainly a player in form and after a great rookie season so far he will be looking to try and push on for a maiden tour victory.

David Lynn - 45/1
Has finished Tied 2nd and 6th in 2 of his last 3 outings and managed a Top 30 last week at the Dunhill, offers fairly good value at 45-1

Richie Ramsay - 66/1
Top of the driving accuracy stats this year which as well as length will be needed this week, looking for someone with longer odds for an each way return then perhaps Richie is the man?
