Dan's 5 Tips For The Andalucia Masters

Wed 26th October, 2011

Apologies for the lack of tips over the last few weeks but my golfing trip to Portugal somewhat hampered me (if you've seen the video of me looking a bit tired and emotional then I'm sure you'll agree!)

This week is the Andalucia Masters at Valderrama - The course is one of the last remaining courses on the circuit that measures under 7000 yards and is a true test of golf. Long hitting is often punished meaning the so called 'bombers' on tour can’t just go lashing at it off the tee and attempting to deal with the consequences. Look out for the winning score to be somewhere around 5-7 under, meaning anyone that can keep around the level par mark for each round will be in with a shout come Sunday.

As usual I will be backing 5 players each way.

Peter Hanson - 22/1
An extremely consistent performer and one of the bigger names playing this week. Peter has not finished worse than Tied-11th in his last 3 events so is certainly swinging it well.

Thomas Bjorn - 28/1
Thomas finished in a tie for 5th here last year and is on the form of his life at the moment. With 2 wins in his last 4 appearances and a Top 10 last week it looks like he will be keen to continue his current form. The only person on better form than him is his caddy, Gareth 'Lordy' Lord. Lordy filled in on Luke Donald’s bag last week as Luke’s usual caddy was away on his honeymoon. This meant he had been on the winning bag 3 times in 4 weeks!

Joost Luiten - 28/1
The Dutchman is enjoying a great season on tour and really needs a win to cap it off. He has finished in the Top 10 in 3 of his last 5 appearances and is becoming an ever present name on the first page of leaderboard's at the moment. Finished in a tie for 5th here last year so certainly knows how to get it round Valderrama.

Miguel Angel Jiminez - 60/1
Mr. Andalucia himself! Miguel never ceases to amaze me, still one of the tours most consistent players and respected massively by all other players. Will have huge home support this week which always helps Miguel, his home away from home crowd in Switzerland helped push him to a top 10 when he wasn’t showing much form. Finished Tied 7th here last year as well and offers great value at 60/1.

Richie Ramsey - 75/1
Not the longest of hitters but certainly one of the straightest, Ramsey is 2nd in the driving accuracy stats this season trailing only to the World number 1 Luke Donald. Keeping the ball in play at Valderrama is a must and having come off the back of a Tied 3rd finish at the Castello Masters Ramsey looks like a great each way bet at 75-1.
